Qatari General Tax Authority (GTA) and the General Authority of Customs (GAC) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in various areas, with a primary focus on the efficient collection of excise taxes on imported goods. A key objective of this MoU is to establish an electronic link between the GAC’s customs clearance system (Al-Nadeeb) and the GTA’s tax portal (Dhareeba). This digital integration will facilitate real-time exchange of information and statistics, ensuring the seamless provision of high-quality tax services to both taxpayers and the general public.
The recent migration of taxpayers to the Dhareeba platform by the GTA has positioned it as a critical source of information for governmental institutions in the State of Qatar. It will play a pivotal role in consolidating data for the forthcoming introduction of Value-Added Tax (VAT) in Qatar. Moreover, the agreement includes provisions for continued collaboration in post-audit procedures for importers and taxpayers. The entities will also actively exchange information pertaining to customs smuggling and tax evasion related to goods subject to excise tax. This MoU signifies a significant step towards strengthening the cooperation between GTA and GAC, fostering efficiency, transparency, and compliance in tax-related matters.
